Oh! What a fest
The Oktoberfest started as a prenuptial celebration of the, then crown prince of Bavaria Prince Ludwig with the princess Theresa Von Sachsen Hildburghausen, on 12th October 1810. The royal family wanted the people of Bavaria to be part of their celebration, and thus this fest was organized. The festivities however continued for 5 days and were finally concluded with a horse race, organized by the royals. Since then the fest is celebrated and for the last 204 years, it has only been cancelled 24 times, that too in the cases of wars or pandemics.
Modifications and additions in the fest have happened from generation to generation but, the true essence, emotions, and charm are still intact.
It is named Oktoberfest, but the celebrations start right from mid-September and continue till the first Sunday of the month of October.
It is estimated that around 6 million people attend the fest every year, from all over the world. They all rejoice and enjoy together the traditional cuisines, Oktoberfest costumes, and of course the most famous and popular alcoholic beverage beer.

Chicken or a Duck dance?
The chicken dance has become a tradition at Oktoberfest, but was it really a chicken dance? Well, no! In1950 a Swiss accordion player Werner Thomas created this song and dance, he named it the duck dance, but in 1980 a german band was supposed to perform the song on a tv show, for the performance they needed the duck suit but as the suit wasn't available they performed, wearing a chicken suit. From there the tradition started and became immensely popular.
The chicken song and the chicken dance is mostly loved and adored by kids. Give your child a chicken costume to complete and compliment the chicken look, let your child look hilarious and jovial at the Oktoberfest.
